On Thursday morning New Mexico Military Institute closed their 2025 campaign with a five-set loss to Casper College at the NJCAA National Championships. With the loss, the Broncos end the year with a 24-11 overall record. Casper improved to 28-9 overall with the win.

The Broncos opened the match with a 2-0 lead with the help of two service aces by Tessa Watson to set the tone for the first set. The next few points were back and forth as the score stayed within two points until NMMI took a 14-10 lead with another service ace, this time by Kae Sato – her lone ace of the match.

The Broncos were able to end the set on an 11-7 run with a block assist by Drianyeliz Ramos Cora and Anniston Lustig that secured the 25-17 win in the opening set.

Casper responded as they opened the second set with a 15-10 lead with a service ace by Penina Leota. The Broncos battled for every point and got within two points as they trailed 20-18. Maria Konwerska tied the set at 22-22 then again at 23-23 with back-to-back kills for NMMI.

However, Casper would take the final two points to secure the second set 25-23.

The middle set was very similar, as Casper was able to secure another 25-23 win to take a 2-1 lead.

In the fourth set the Broncos opened with a 6-2 run to force a Casper timeout to try and stop the NMMI momentum. It did not work as the Broncos jumped out to a 15-8 lead with a service ace by Michelle Mlikan.

The NMMI defense held firm as they did not allow Casper to creep back in the match as they secured the fourth set 25-19 to make it a 2-2 match.

In the final set, both teams left it all on the court as there wasn't a lead of more than two points. The Broncos held an 11-9 lead, but Casper battled their way back to take a 14-13 lead.

With the help of a kill by Michelle Mlikan the Broncos took a 15-14 lead but Casper would end the match with a 4-1 run to secure the win with a 18-16 fifth set win.
