On Friday night New Mexico Military Institute earned their eighth consecutive win as they knocked off Hagerman 56-19 in the Godfrey Athletic Center. With the win the Lady Colts improve to 11-1 on the year. With the loss, Hagerman dipped to 2-12 on the season.
The opening quarter would prove to be the most competitive period of the game as NMMI outscored Hagerman 9-6. Early on Aleyah Andrews found her rhythm as she scored six quick points to lead all scorers in the first eight minutes. Kaytlyn Lackey scored the other three points for the Lady Colts as she split a pair of free throws. For Hagerman, three different scorers scored a basket to keep the game close through the first eight minutes.
After a quiet first quarter, the Lady Colts found another gear as they tallied 24 points in the second quarter. After a scoreless first quarter, Neveah Clark scored six in the second period to lead the way for NMMI. Four other Lady Colts scored in the frame after only two players scored in the opening quarter. After allowing just six points, the Lady Colts followed that up by only allowing five second-quarter points. Yalitza Caballero scored four of the Bobcats points in the period. The Lady Colts entered halftime with a 33-11 lead.
Up by double-digits NMMI kept their foot on the gas. Once again five different Lady Colts scored in the period. After some time out, Siany McGhan tallied three points for the Lady Colts in the quarter in her first game back. The defensive theme remained the same as NMMI allowed Hagerman to score just six points in the third quarter. Ariana Magallanes scored four points for the Bobcats as they trailed 44-17 heading into the final period.
In the final quarter the Lady Colts held Hagerman to just two points as they outscored the Bobcats 12-2 in the frame. For NMMI, Sofia Barreras knocked down a three-pointer as McGhan added another four points to her tally. With a running clock in the final minutes, NMMI defeated Hagerman 56-19 to earn their 11th win of the season.
