On Friday September 5th, the NMMI Boys and Girls Colt Cross Country teams headed out to the Mescalero Apache XC Meet (5k course). This course brought many challenges that would test the training, and determination of the boys and girls all throughout the course. The elevation of the course was approximately 6,600ft, which is nearly double that of the altitude that the team trains at for practice. In addition to the increased elevation, the runners also faced multiple hills, constant rain, and slick conditions.
The varsity boys left everything out on the course, the varsity boys team placed fourth out of five teams, only four points behind third place.
Ethan Stark was the first male runner to finish for the varsity boys, he ran an outstanding time of (19:14.88 minutes). This time placed Ethan Stark in 15th place. The second male finisher for the varsity team was Luiz Orozco, with a time of (19:45.14 minutes), Luiz Orozco placed 19th overall.
The varsity female team was out there to win, and they did! The varsity girls secured first place with a five point lead over the second place team.
Alison Christiansen placed first for the girls, with a time of (21:22.62 minutes). In second place was Roslyn Densmore with a time of (22:38.44 minutes).
NMMI competed against nine schools overall, and made their name known. The next meet will be held in Roswell, “The NMMI Invitational”, on September 20th.
