The NMMI Colt Track and Field team delivered an amazing performance at the 2025 Alfalfa Cup Hagerman Track Meet. The team results were outstanding, the male Colts varsity team placed 1st with 137 points, and the Lady Colts placed 5th with 49 points on Friday, April 11. At this point in the season, the NMAA State Track and Field Championships are less than a month away, and beyond the teams score, there are a few athletes who were able to individually qualify for state at the Hagerman track meet.
Cohen Tomasits stepped up to this track meet with confidence, speed, and power. In the 200m dash, he had a time of (23.26), this secured Tomasists into 1st Place and qualified him for state. In the 100m dash, his time was (11.24), this put him in 2nd Place and qualified him for state. Lastly, he placed 2nd place in the Long Jump with a distance of (19-3), once again enough to qualify for state.
Miguel Garcia was off to a strong start at the Hagerman meet, right away he secured 1st place in triple jump with a state qualifying distance of (38-3). After the triple jump he got 3rd place, and qualified for state in the 400m dash with a time of (52.54). Garcia also got 3rd place and qualified for state in the 200m dash with a time of (23.64).
Sawyer Hull brought himself two 1st place wins at the Hagerman meet. At high jump, Hull qualified for state, and got 1st place with a height of (6-2), and he qualified for state again in Javelin, with a distance of (142-1), also putting him at 1st place.
In the long distance side of performance, Cale Taylor placed 1st in the 1600m with a time of (5:11.39). Cale was able to get 1st place again in the 3200m with a time of (11:42.96). Luis Miranda competed in the 3200m alongside Cale Taylor, Luis was able to secure 3rd place with a time of (12:37).
Just like his older brother, Luke Tomasits brought forward nothing else except a 1st place win. Luke qualified for state with a height of (10-0) on Pole Vault. Warren Spaniel kept jumping until he finally reached 2nd place and qualified for state during High Jump with a height of (5-10).
Yong Bessell must have been hitting the gym recently because he was able to deliver a strong throw at Discus with a distance of (127-5.25). This successful throw got Yong into 2nd place and also qualified him for state.Edward Vigil brought the team not one, but two 3rd place performances on the 110m High Hurdles, and the 300m Hurdles. During the 110m Hurdles, Edward ran through the finish line with a time of (17.78), and a time of (44.92) on the 300m hurdles.
Finally for the boys 4x100m relay, the team pulled together and got 2nd place, and qualified for state with a collective time of (44.91).
Over on the Lady Colts end of the track meet, there were a few Lady Colt athletes who were able to deliver stelar times.Sofia Barreras got 1st place in the 400m dash with a time of (1:07). Roslyn Densmore also got 1st place, but her performance was in the 800m dash with a time of (2:43).Jadyn Wade got 3rd place in the 1600m run with a time of (6:54).Lastly, the lady colts pulled through and got 2nd place in the girls 4x100m relay with a time of (55.10).
The District 4-3A meet will take place Friday, May 2 in Tularosa, NM. The state meet is May 9-10 at the University of New Mexico Track & Field Complex in Albuquerque.
