On Tuesday night, New Mexico Military hosted Artesia High School at Stapp Field. With a 2-0 loss, NMMI dips to 3-4 overall while Artesia improves to 8-3 on the year.

Early on both sides struggled to find any rhythm as both defenses seemed in-tune early. After a couple of early tests passed by goalkeeper, Rudolfo Anaya, the score remained 0-0. However, around the 10-minute mark the Bulldogs were able to capitalize from the penalty spot as AC Hendricks made it a 1-0 lead with 30 minutes remaining in the half.

The Colts had a few opportunities on goal but were unable to put the ball in the back of the net. First, Wagner Ferreira Morato Cunha missed a shot just left of the post around the 20-minute mark. Then, Daniel Dosamantes Urbina missed a free kick opportunity from 20 yards out, as he couldn’t get the ball past the wall.

After halftime, the Colts came out aggressive as they applied pressure early on. Artesia was not able to establish offensive rhythm early in the second half as the Colts displayed a high press. However, on offense, NMMI had a few opportunities but nothing dangerous to test the Bulldog keeper.

With 10 minutes remaining, Samuel Nielson blasted a shot from just past half field and found the side net to make it a 2-0 lead for the visiting team. The Colts fought to try and get a goal back, but Artesia held firm and maintained the 2-0 shutout.
