Colts shutout Ruidoso High School, 4-0

On Wednesday afternoon New Mexico Military remained a perfect 3-0 in conference play with a 4-0 shutout win over Ruidoso at Stapp Field. With the win the Colts improve to 9-5 overall, winners of their last six games. With the loss, Ruidoso falls to 0-1 in district with a 3-6-2 overall mark.

The first half saw some early action but the scoring was held to a minimum. On one of the first attempts on goal, Wagner Ferreira Morato Cunha blasted a shot from outside the 18-yard box but the keeper pushed it away. However, Daniel Dosamantes Urbina was in the right spot to score the rebound and give NMMI a quick 1-0 lead in the first five minutes of the half.

As both teams settled in, the rest of the half remained scoreless. Rudolfo Anaya was able to record a couple saves as the Warriors attempted on goal but created no true danger for the Colts.

H2

Following the halftime break, the Colts found another gear. In the first five minutes of the second half, the Colts scored a pair of quick goals to take a 3-0 lead. First, Wagner Ferreira Morato Cunha slotted one across the keeper off an assist by Borja Gastelum Romero in the 46th minute. Two minutes later, Borja Gastelum Romero scored as he finished a crossed ball by Wagner Ferreira Morato Cunha to put the Colts ahead 3-0 less than five minutes into the half.

Less than 10 minutes later, Borja Gastelum Romero found the back of the net again. This time, Borja Gastelum Romero secured his brace as he finished a beautiful through ball by Daniel Dosamantes Urbina to give NMMI a 4-0 advantage.

The Colts were able to hold the Warriors scoreless, marking the third consecutive clean-sheet posted by the NMMI defense as they secured the 4-0 shutout win.
