On Saturday afternoon New Mexico Military Institute improved to 6-5 overall with a 70-57 win over Yavapai College in the Cahoon Armory Gym. With the loss, the Roughriders moved to 5-5 on the year.

The Broncos opened the game with a small 5-2, as Taye Williams got involved early scoring three of his 13 points in the first minute of the game. A few buckets later, Kiffen Teixeira put NMMI ahead 11-6 to give the Broncos their largest lead of the game with 15:07 remaining in the half.
In the next five minutes the Broncos conducted a 6-2 run as they held a 17-8 advantage with the help of a putback by Kelvin John. The Roughriders responded with great defense and an 18-8 run as they took a 26-25 lead with 1:33 left in the period. The Broncos ended the half on a 6-0 run as Carlos Mata and Demari Larkins each scored a basket to give NMMI a 31-26 lead at the half.

The Broncos' five-point lead grew to nine points as Demari Larkins drilled his free throws to give the Broncos their largest lead of the game with 17:23 remaining in the contest. Yavapai was able to stick around for the next few minutes as they answered any bucket scored by NMMI.
Both teams traded baskets, but the Broncos were able to maintain their nine-point advantage with 10:42 left in the game after a pair of free throws by Anatoli Da Silva. In the next five minutes the Broncos were able to create their largest lead of the game – 15 points, as Joel Pinto scored two of his 10-points in the afternoon.
With 5:27 remaining and a 15-point lead, the Broncos closed out the game on a 10-12 run as they secured their sixth win of the season with a 70-57 win over the Roughriders.
The two teams met back on Nov. 5 where Yavapai College came out on top 81-79 in a game that went into overtime. Head Coach Sean Schooley on the win, "the biggest difference between last month and today is our defense. When you force 20 turnovers and get 10 steals, you force them into tough possessions and tough shots," Schooley said. The Broncos had 4-of-5 starters score in double figures, "when you get all-around offense from multiple levels it's hard for the defenders to key in on one guy, with four guys in double figures we moved the ball and weren't forced into shots, "Schooley said.

The Broncos return to action on Friday, December 5 as they host Arizona Western College in the Cahoon Armory Gym at 6 p.m. NMMI will host Trinidad St. on Sunday, December 7 to close out 2025.
