Broncos’ comeback falls short, fall 35-32 to No. 13 Navarro College

On Saturday afternoon New Mexico Military gave No. 13 Navarro all they could handle in a 35-32 loss at Tiger Stadium in Corsicana, TX. With back-to-back losses to end the 2025 season the Broncos finish the year with a 3-6 overall record with a 2-5 record in conference play. With the win Navarro improved to 5-3 overall.

Q1

In the opening quarter both teams tried a fourth down conversion that was stopped by the opposing defense to keep both offenses scoreless early on. Late in the quarter, Jake South found Geramyah Porter wide open from 85 yards out after the defender stumbled. Porter gave NMMI a 6-0 lead after a failed extra point attempt by Jack Nelson with 2:50 remaining in the opening period.

Q2

Five minutes later, Navarro College put together an impressive drive that was capped off by a 9-yard touchdown catch by Micah Simpson to put Navarro ahead 7-6 with 13:44 left in the opening half.

Trailing by one point, the Broncos answered back with a touchdown drive of their own. After a long pass setup NMMI with first and goal from inside the five-yard line. After a handoff went nowhere, Jake South reached over the goal line to put NMMI back on top 13-7 with 5:01 left in the half. However, the Bulldogs would close out the half with a 3-yard rushing touchdown to take a 14-13 lead heading into halftime.

Q3

In the third quarter Navarro scored first to grow their advantage. On their opening drive of the second half Nacari Ashley recorded a 24-yard touchdown catch with 3:51 remaining in the period to take a 21-13 lead. That would prove to be the only score of the quarter as both defenses found some rhythm.

Q4

Just 40 seconds into the final period, Navarro took a 28-13 lead with a 2-yard rushing touchdown by Asaiah Levells with 14:26 left in the ballgame. The Broncos were able to conduct a scoring drive that was capped off by a quarterback sneak for Jake South as he made it a 28-19 game and tallied his third total touchdown of the afternoon with 10:36 left in the period.

With an immediate response, Navarro used up five minutes off the clock and increased their advantage to 35-19 with a one-yard rushing touchdown by Isiah Nutall.

Finding a late gear, the Broncos conducted a late touchdown drive that was capped off by a 20-yard connection from Jake South to Jayden Wood, who went up and snagged the ball out the air to make it a 35-25 ball game after a failed two-point attempt by the Broncos with 3:40 left on the clock.

As Navarro tried to run out the ball, the Broncos forced their only takeaway of the game with a fumble that was recovered by Sam Marcelin. NMMI wasted no time finding the endzone as Jake South found Samuel Monfre open from five yards out to make it a one score game 35-32 with 1:15 left in the contest.

With only one timeout left to stop the clock, NMMI watched Navarro run out the clock on their final possession to secure a 35-32 win.
