On Friday afternoon New Mexico Military improved to 8-2 in conference play and 24-6 overall with a 10-0 win in game one, followed by a 20-12 win in game two over Western Texas College at the NMMI Ballpark. The Westerners fall to 4-6 in conference play with a 7-21 overall record.

GAME 1

Hyunwook Lee was untouchable through five innings, systematically dismantling the Western Texas lineup. He racked up eight strikeouts, including a dominant second inning where he struck out the side. Despite Western Texas finding occasional life with doubles from F. Riep and B. House, Lee consistently slammed the door, aided by a sharp 6-4-3 double play in the fifth to effectively end any hopes of a comeback.

While NMMI took an early lead in the first via an Seungmin Shin RBI single, the game turned into a rout in the bottom of the third. After a series of walks and aggressive baserunning—including double steals by Joek Rivera and Seungmin Shin—the pressure forced multiple Western Texas errors. The definitive blow came off the bat of Eliseo Ramirez, who crushed a three-run home run to left field, capping an eight-run surge for the Broncos.

NMMI added two more insurance runs in the fourth. Missael Maldonado Baez and Javier Yepiz both notched RBI doubles to bring the tally to double digits. Western Texas struggled with defensive miscues throughout the afternoon, tallying five errors that gifted NMMI extra opportunities.

Western Texas managed five hits but could never string them together against a locked-in NMMI defense as they completed the 10-0 shutout.

GAME 2

Western Texas jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first after C. Fuentes launched a two-run homer. However, NMMI responded with a massive six-run second inning to take control. This rally was fueled by patient plate appearances and timely hitting from Joek Rivera, Missael Maldonado Baez, and Javier Yepiz, who combined to flip the script and put NMMI ahead 7-3.

The middle innings turned into a home run derby. Western Texas stayed within striking distance thanks to solo shots from Torres and back-to-back homers by S. Llamozas and F. Marquez in the sixth. NMMI answered every blow; Javier Yepiz belted two home runs in the game, while Wonjae Cho and Alec Guevara each added long balls to extend the lead.

Western Texas mounted a late threat in the seventh and eighth, highlighted by two triples from Stewart, but they couldn't overcome NMMI's relentless offense. NMMI put the game out of reach in the late innings, scoring four in the sixth and three more in the eighth to cross the 20-run threshold, helping NMMI earn their ninth consecutive win.
