On Saturday afternoon New Mexico Military earned a 7-1 and 12-2 win over Otero College at the NMMI Ballpark. With the pair of wins, the Broncos improve to 11-3 on the year while Otero opens the season with an 0-6 mark.
GAME 1
Otero scored the first run of the series in the top of the second inning after a scoreless first inning by both teams. The Rattlers used a fielder's choice to score a runner and take a 1-0 lead. The Broncos used the fourth homer of the season by Damwoo Kim to tie the contest in the bottom of the third inning.
The offense continued in the bottom of the fourth as Missael Maldonado Baez got on base with a single before advancing to third off a double by Alec Guevara in the next at bat. With two runners on, Wonjae Cho picked up an RBI with a groundout to give NMMI a 2-1 lead.
After Hyunwook Lee retired the Otero side in order, Joek Rivera Colon opened the bottom half of the fifth inning with a single to get on base. Seungmin Shin stepped up to the plate and tallied his third triple of the season to give the Broncos a 3-1 advantage. Two outs later, Wonjae Cho picked up his 14th RBI of the season with a single to help score Shin and put NMMI ahead by three runs.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Broncos scored a pair of runs with the help of a couple errors, and an RBI fly out by Missael Maldonado Baez to take a 7-1 lead. Hyunwook Lee started and completed his first full game of the season as he allowed just two hits while striking out nine batters in the process to give NMMI its first win of the series.
GAME 2
In game two the Broncos waited until the bottom of the third inning to start the noise. Eliseo Ramirez started off with a single to left field. Two outs later, Joek Rivera Colon recorded his second triple of the season, an RBI to give NMMI a 1-0 advantage. In the next at bat, Seungmin Shin recorded his fourth home run of the year to put the home side ahead by three runs. Otero responded in the top of the fourth inning with their only run pair of runs of the contest as they trailed 3-2. The Broncos scored a run in the bottom half of the fourth inning with the help of an error.
Ahead by two, Joek Rivera Colon sent one to the moon in the second pitch of the at bat to give NMMI a 5-2 advantage. After a groundout, Missael Maldonado Baez sent his third pitch of the at bat onto Main St. to give NMMI a four-run lead.
After keeping Otero scoreless in the next two innings, the NMMI offense exploded for six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Cinco Holloway got it started with a leadoff single. Damwoo Kim notched his second homer of the day in the next at bat to give the Broncos an 8-2 lead. After Joek Rivera Colon got on base with a double, Seungmin Shin hit an RBI single to give NMMI a seven-run lead. Following a walk, Kylian Bamberger recorded an RBI with his second triple of the year. The Broncos would score another run off a wild pitch as they secured the 12-2 run-rule win after six innings.
