Blackwell enters his fourth season as head baseball coach of the Colts in 2026, compiling an impressive career record of 59–18. In 2025, he was named Class 3A Coach of the Year after leading the Colts to the Class 3A State Championship.

A 2013 graduate from Goddard High School, Blackwell was a standout multi-sport athlete. He earned first-team all-district and all-state honors and was selected to compete in the North/South All-Star Game as a senior. During his final season, he set the state record for stolen bases, recording 30 steals in 27 games.

Blackwell continued his playing career at New Mexico Military Institute, where he was a two-year starter at shortstop and left field from 2013–2015 under current head coach Chris Cook. He earned an Associate of Arts degree before transferring to New Mexico Highlands University, where he started for two additional seasons under coach Shannon Hunt. He graduated in 2017 with a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science.

Blackwell began his teaching and coaching career in 2020 at Roswell High School and was named head baseball coach of the Colts in 2022. In his first season at the helm, the Colts captured the Colt Classic Tournament for the first time since 2015 and won the Hal Bogle Tournament in Dexter. The team finished 21–5, earning the No. 2 seed in the Class 3A state playoffs. In year two, the Colts posted a 16–7 overall record.
During his third season in 2025, Blackwell led the Colts to an 11–1 district record and a district championship, earning the No. 1 seed in the state tournament. The Colts went on to secure the program’s fourth state championship, finishing the season 22–6 with a 13-game winning streak.

Blackwell is supported by a strong family foundation. He and his wife, Patricia, are proud parents to Irah, Elle, Astyn, Blair, and Brigham. He also has two sisters, Brittany and Bailey, and is the son of Barry and Risa Blackwell.
