On Wednesday afternoon Brett Doke and Leonardo Perez, both earned first round wins at the NMAA State Championships on the campus of Albuquerque Academy. The duo both saw a second-round exit as they took on the top three seeds in the state.
In the first round, Brett Doke outlasted No. 6 Daniel Altobello from Valencia High School in three sets. The win earned the sophomore a spot in the 4 p.m. Quarterfinal, where he took on No. 3 Adrian Hanna from Albuquerque Academy and fell in two sets.
In his Round of 16 match, Leonardo Perez breezed past Luke Austin from Belen High School in two sets, 6-0 and 6-2. The win placed Perez in the 4 p.m. Quarterfinal, where he faced off with No. 1 Henry Kaufman from Santa Fe Prep and stumbled in two sets.
