Colts fall in five innings to East Mountain Tuesday afternoon

On Tuesday afternoon New Mexico Military Institute moved to 2-2 in district play and 5-9 overall with a 10-0 loss to East Mountain High School at the NMMI Ballpark. With the win, East Mountain improved to 14-1 overall with a 4-0 mark in district play.

After two scoreless frames defined by stranded runners, East Mountain broke the game open in the third. Following consecutive walks to load the bases, L. Stoerner delivered a bases-clearing double to right field, driving in three. R. Moorhead added an RBI single later in the frame to extend the lead to 4-0. The T-Wolves continued the pressure in the fourth, utilizing a sacrifice fly from A. Madrid and a two-RBI single by Moorhead to push the advantage to 7-0.

The T-Wolves’ offense peaked in the fifth inning. T. Rector hammered a two-run double to center field. He was immediately driven home by a C. Birdwell single, capping the scoring at 10.The Colts struggled to find momentum on the base paths, losing multiple runners to pick-offs and caught stealing.

East Mountain’s balanced attack—combining 13 hits with patient baserunning—proved too much for NMMI, as the T-Wolves cruised to a run-rule victory.
