Lady Colts fall against Dexter High Wednesday night

On Wednesday evening, New Mexico Military Institute hosted Dexter High in the Godfrey Athletic Center for the first of two times this season. With the 33-19 loss, NMMI dips to 2-5 on the year while Dexter improves to 13-7 on the season.

Q1

In the opening quarter, the Dexter defense came out strong as they allowed five first-quarter points by the Lady Colts. Of those five points, Siany McGhan and Neveah Clark each scored a basket in the quarter. However, the Lady Colts were unable to stop Melody Duran as she tallied nine of Dexter’s 11 first-quarter points. After the first eight minutes NMMI trailed 11-5.

Q2

As NMMI Struggled to score in the second quarter, Clark scored the only points for the Lady Colts as she knocked down a three to add to the NMMI total. Playing effective defense, NMMI held Dexter to just seven points as the visiting team held an 18-8 lead heading into halftime.

Q3

Coming out of halftime, the theme for Lady Colts was defense. In the first seven minutes of the eight minute period, NMMI allowed just two points, with a pair of those points coming at the free throw line. Scoring seven in the quarter, NMMI was able to make it a 23-15 ballgame.

Q4

In the final period, NMMI was outscored 10-4 as Carolina Meza knocked down one of the two threes on the night for the Lady Colts. For Dexter, Kaylee Nevarez also knocked down a three in the quarter as four different scorers found the bottom of the net for the Demons in the final eight minutes of action. After scoring 11 points in the half, the Lady Colts dropped their third home contest with the 33-19 loss Wednesday night.

Clark and Meza both tallied five points each to lead the way for NMMI.

NMMI will return to action tomorrow Thursday, Jan. 30 as they travel to Hagerman, NM for a 5:30 p.m. MST matchup with Hagerman High School.
