The New Mexico Military Institute golf team wrapped up a hard-fought performance on Tuesday afternoon at the South-Central District Championship. Competing at the Mission Del Lago Municipal Golf Course, the Broncos navigated a competitive field to secure a sixth-place team finish, posting a cumulative score of 3-over par (+3) for the tournament.
The Broncos displayed flashes of brilliance throughout the event, particularly during Monday's opening sessions. The team surged early, finishing the first 18 holes at 4-under par (-4). However, the momentum shifted slightly in the afternoon as they finished the second round at 5-over par (+5).On Tuesday morning's final round, NMMI remained steady, carding a 2-over par (+2) to solidify their position in the top half of the leaderboard.
Two Broncos headlined the individual leaderboard, holding their own against a deep field of over 65 participants. Joseph Suh: Leading the charge for NMMI, Suh captured third place overall. His consistent play—carding rounds of 68, 70, and 72—marks his third consecutive top-10 finish. Gianni Perilli: Finishing in a tie for seventh, Perilli turned in a scorecard of 72, 70, and 71. This performance adds to an impressive season resume; Perilli has now placed in the top 10 in four of his last six outings, including two top-five finishes.
Currently ranked No. 17 in the nation, the Broncos have their sights set on the national stage. The team is aiming for a bid to the NJCAA National Championship, scheduled for mid-May at the Sand Creek Station Golf Course in Newton, KS.
