On Thursday afternoon New Mexico Military gave up a 2-0 lead and suffered a 3-2 loss against Mesilla Valley Christian in the Godfrey Athletic Center. With the setback the Colts move to 8-7overall while Mesilla Valley improves to 11-4 on the year.

SET 1

NMMI flexed their muscles early on as they jumped out to a 17-6 lead in the first set. Following a Mesilla Valley timeout, the in-rhythm Colts closed out the set on a 8-2 run as they breezed through the first set with a 25-8 win.

SET 2

After a hot start in the first set, the Colts continued their momentum as they took a 10-4 lead in the second set. However, Mesilla Valley would begin to warm up as they fought back to make it a 20-16 lead for the Colts.

Following a NMMI timeout, the Colts secured the second set 25-21 as they held off the comeback attempt by the Sonblazers.

SET 3

In the middle set, Mesilla Valley trailed 9-12 but that didn’t last long. The Sonblazers were able to fight their way to a 21-16 lead – forcing an NMMI timeout. Following the timeout, Mesilla Valley closed out the set on a 4-3 run as they secured the middle set 25-19.

SET 4

NMMI started out the fourth set on fire as they took a quick 7-1 lead. Down by six, Mesilla Valley turned the tables on the Colts. The Sonblazers were able to go on a 15-7 run to force a NMMI timeout with a 16-14 lead.

The Colts attempted the comeback but Mesilla Valley held firm and went on to tie the match with a 25-20 victory in the fourth set.

SET 5

With momentum on their side, the Sonblazers took an early lead in the final set. The Colts fought back and made it a 13-12 match. As they had done in the final two sets, Mesilla Valley finished the set strong to secure the match 3-2 with a 15-13 win in the final set.
