On Friday night New Mexico Military Institute ended the regular season with a 35-27 win over Cathedral High School at Colt Field. With the win the Colts end the regular season with a 6-4 overall record. With the loss, Cathedral dips to 2-6 on the season.
Q1
The Colts wasted no time getting on the board. On the second play of the game, Miguel Garcia blasted away for 72 yards to give NMMI a 7-0 lead after Brendan Mann drilled the extra point attempt.
On defense, the Colts forced a quick four and out to get their offense back on the field with 9:25 left in the first quarter. In just three plays, the Colts found the endzone with a 10-yard rushing touchdown but failed to extra point to make it a 13-0 lead.
Once again, the NMMI defense forced another punt. This time, the Colts conducted a 6-play 94-yard scoring drive. Luke Tomasits connected with Konstantino Scopelitis from 46 yards out to go ahead three scores with the help of a two-point conversion by Miguel Garcia as the Colts enjoyed a 21-0 advantage.
Cathedral answered with a 10-play, 81-yard touchdown drive. The drive was capped off by a 3-yard rush by Pedro Chavez to make it a 21-7 ball game.
Q2
In the first drive of the second quarter, NMMI punted the ball but it was returned by Jacob Ornelas for 95 yards as the Fighting Irish closed the gap, 21-14 with 9:29 remaining in the half. The half ended with punts by both teams as the Colts enjoyed a seven point lead heading into halftime.
Q3
On the first drive of the second half, Cathedral scored in just four plays as Pedro Chavez found Jack Ivey in the end zone from 14 yards out to tie the game at 21-21.
With an immediate response, Konstantino Scopelitis set up the Colts in great field position with a 76-yard rush. After the long rush, Konstantino Scopelitis scored from a yard out to put NMMI ahead 28-21 following the made extra point with 7:52 remaining in the third period.
Q4
On their first drive in the final quarter the Colts increased their lead after a 15-play, 86-yard drive that used over 10 minutes off the clock. Diego Del Rincon capped off the scoring drive with a 2-yard rush to give NMMI a 35-21 lead with 5:45 remaining in the contest.
After back-to-back punts, Cathedral used a 3-play, 57-yard drive that was capped off by a 23-yard passing touchdown from Pedro Chavez to Diego Sanchez. However, the Fighting Irish failed the two-point conversion as they trailed 35-27.
After an NMMI fumble gave the ball back to Cathedral late, the Colts stopped the visitors on fourth down to secure the 35-27 win on senior night.
Konstantino Scopelitis tallied 216 rushing yards on 16 carries to go along with a pair of touchdowns. He also caught two passes for 60 yards and a touchdown. Migel Garcia rushed for 125 yards off 12 carries with a touchdown for the Colts. Luke Tomasits went 3-for-6, throwing for 81 yards and a touchdown. Grant Maloney led the way on defense for the Colts with nine total tackles.

With the selection show on Sunday, NMMI will find out what seed and their opponent for the first round of the NMMA Class 3A State Playoffs. The first round will take place Nov. 7-8 with the higher seed being the host.
