On Friday night New Mexico Military fell to 11-5 overall with a 49-37 loss to Ruidoso High School at the Godfrey Athletic Center. The Lady Colts fell to 0-4 in district play while Ruidoso improved to 2-2 in district with a 12-9 overall record.

In the first quarter the Lady Colts stayed within reach as they were outscored 10-7. Aleyah Andrews scored two quick layups to score four points while Neveah Clark scored her only basket of the half in the first quarter. The Warriors used three different scorers to hold a three-point advantage after the first eight minutes of the game.

Down by three, NMMI conducted a 9-8 run in the second quarter. The second quarter was the Aleyah Andrews show. She scored seven of the Lady Colts nine points as Jadyn Wade added a putback. However, coming out of halftime, the Lady Colts were outscored 15-4 in the third quarter. Aleyah Andrews scored all four points for the Lady Colts as they trailed 33-20 heading into the final period.

The Lady Colts found another gear in the final quarter as they scored 17 total points, three less points than the first three quarters combined.  Neveah Clark scored five late points to add to her total with the help of a three. Ezebelle Gomez scored her only two baskets in the final period while Aleyah Andrews added another four points to her tally as she finished the game with 19 total points. Lily Mendez scored eight fourth-quarter points to secure the 49-37 win for the Warriors.

Head Coach Lawrence Hall on the loss, “disappointed with the result obviously, but I’m happy with our defensive execution especially late in the game. After giving up almost 70 to them at their place, we come back and allow 49 … that’s improvement and I’m proud of our girls for that,” Hall said. “The third quarter was brutal for us. We came out and couldn’t score and they did the opposite and knocked down some threes, and that just put the game away for us,” Hall said. “We have another opportunity tomorrow against Santa Fe Prep so we’re going to use that to work some things out and get better for our final two district games,” Hall said.
