Colts use fast start to hold off Ruidoso, 45-13 after weather delay

On Friday evening, Colt Football improved to 6-2 on the year with a 45-13 win over Ruidoso High. With the win, New Mexico Military Institute boosted their district record to 3-1 with back-to-back wins.

Q1

After Ruidoso took the opening kickoff, the Colts responded with an interception as Marcus Kannady jumped the route on the second play of the drive to give the Colts offense a opportunity at the Ruidoso seven yardline after a nice return. The next play, Cohen Tomasits took the handoff into the endzone to give the Colts the early 7-0 lead.

The Colts forced a quick three and out to get the offense back on the field. In just four plays the Colts drove the play 60 yards capped by a touchdown pass from Cole Seidenberger to Noah Martinez to put the home team ahead 15-0 after a successful two-point attempt.

On the kickoff, the Colts recovered the ball after the Ruidoso Warriors failed to return the kickoff and set the Colt offense up a first and goal after a lengthy return by Sawyer Hull. On the next play, Tomasits found the endzone for the second time to put the Colts ahead 22-0.

Before the quarter would come to an end, the Colt defense would come up with another takeaway as Samuel McCargish forced and recorded the fumble. On the next two plays, Tomasits would score his third touchdown of the quarter to give the Colts a 29-point advantage.
