On Saturday afternoon, New Mexico Military made their third consecutive appearance in the NMAA State Semifinal. The Colts suffered a 54-8 loss to St. Michael’s, ending the season with an 8-5 overall record. With the win, St. Michael’s improved to 12-0 on the year and earned a spot in the state championship next Saturday.
Q1
After NMMI were forced to punt the ball on their opening drive, St. Michaels responded with a 5-play, 85-yard drive that resulted in a 69-yard touchdown scramble by Kamal Stith who put the Horsemen ahead 7-0 with 5:29 remaining in the quarter.
To end the quarter, the Colts were moving the ball down field, but the drive stalled as Konstantino Scopelitits fumbled the ball to end the first period.
Q2
In the second quarter, St. Michael’s scored on three consecutive drives and held the Colts scoreless as they went into halftime with a 27-0 lead.
Q3
St. Michael’s opened the second half with a one-play, 40-yard drive as Isaiah Dominguez took a handoff for 40 yards as he ran past the Colt defenders. The Colts were forced to punt on their offensive possession but got the ball back as they recovered a fumble on the muffed punt.
Using the short field, NMMI conducted a 3-play, 27-yard drive that was capped off by a 7-yard rushing touchdown by Luke Tomasists. The Colts made it a 34-8 ball game after Miguel Garcia converted the two-point attempt after the score.
As they did most of the game, St. Michael’s found the end zone with a 14-yard touchdown pass from Kamal Stith to Victor Corrall, who was wide open in the endzone to give the home team a 41-8 advantage.
Q4
In the final period St. Michael’s scored twice in less than a minute. First Isaiah Dominguez recorded a 96-yard rushing touchdown, then the Horseman got the ball back after recovering an onside kick.
Following the kick, Isaiah Dominguez needed just one play to find the endzone with a 26-yard rushing touchdown to make it a 54-8 game.
The Colts offense stalled the remainder of the game as they continued to run the ball being down by multiple scores.
